COLOR: The Color Combos of Photographer Sivan Askayo |
February 23, 2012
I’ve only met Sivan once, briefly, at an event, but in our correspondence since (don’t you love how social media has brought the pen pal concept back?!) it’s been clear how passionate she is about art, design and above all – photography. Sivan Askayo is a photographer of all trades, in the best meaning possible, and master of them all; wandering the world for travel photos? Check. A healthy obsession with Polaroids? Of course. An internationally-praised series of clothes hanging on wires? You bet. In between she also manages to photograph kids and shoot Anna Dello Russo at New York Fashion Week. So you can probably understand why I was thrilled to have Sivan tell us about her favorite color combo, the one that stars in her Midtown NYC bedroom.
I painted a few walls in my apartment gray. It’s a gray similar to Middle Gray, the tone that photographers use to define balance. I chose this gray, to be honest, because it wasn’t boring like white and because all my photographs look great against it, the colorful ones as well as those in black and white. I have two yellow chairs, yellow dressers and a violet quilt, so this combo works perfectly for me.
Thank you so much for participating, Sivan. Readers, does any of you have such a colorful bedroom? Would you?
